7 Rainy-Day Walk Tips for French Bulldogs
Updated: 5 days ago
If your Frenchie treats a wet doorstep like a wall, you're not alone. Tito would happily wait out the whole rainy season on the couch. But dogs still need their walks, and up here the rain doesn't wait for anyone. These are the habits that get us out the door and home again without a fight.
1. Go shorter, go more often
Two or three quick loops beat one long soggy slog. Your dog still gets to sniff and potty, and nobody comes home soaked to the skin.
2. Watch the radar
PNW rain comes and goes. A quick look at the weather app often turns up a 20-minute break between showers. That's your window.
3. Cover the belly, not just the back
Frenchies sit low, so the chest and belly take the most splash. A full-body raincoat keeps the wettest parts dry, which means less towel time afterward. A clear hood helps too, since rain in the face is a big reason some flat-faced dogs refuse to go out at all.
4. Be seen
Winter afternoons get dark early, and gray rain makes a gray dog hard to spot. Reflective trim on the coat or leash and a small clip-on light make a big difference near traffic.
5. Mind the puddles and paws
Steer around deep puddles and runoff. Street water can carry oil and other gunk you don't want your dog licking off their paws later. Booties help if your Frenchie will wear them. If not, a quick paw rinse at the door works.
6. Set up a drying station
Keep a towel and a few treats by the door. Dry paws, belly and especially the face wrinkles, since damp skin folds can get irritated. Hang the raincoat somewhere it can drip dry before the next walk.
7. Make rain mean something good
Save a favorite treat for rainy walks only, and praise big for every potty outside. On the really stormy days, swap part of the walk for a sniffing game or a puzzle toy indoors. A tired Frenchie is a happy Frenchie, wet or dry.
What Tito wears
Tito's rainy-day coat is our Puget Sound Rain Slicker: full-body coverage, a clear hood and reflective stripes, cut for a deep Frenchie chest. Not sure about size? Our measuring guide walks you through it, and if the fit's off we'll swap the size free within 30 days.
